Jess Learmonth is the Glasgow 2018 Triathlon Ambassador

Say hello to champion athlete Jess Learmonth, who has been announced today as the official Glasgow 2018 Triathlon Ambassador!

The European Triathlon Championships are coming to Scotland for the first time as part of Glasgow 2018. Strathclyde Country Park will welcome some of the top Triathletes in Europe for three days of action-packed sporting competition.

Known for her swimming and cycling power and speed, Jess has quickly made a name for herself as one of Britain’s most exciting triathlon prospects and her first major international title in June 2017 at the ETU European Championships in Kitzbuhel.

She then went on to take a silver medal in the women’s individual and mixed team relay events at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. She has made a promising start to the World Triathlon Series, finishing second in the first race of the series in Abu Dhabi and 8th at the most recent race in her native Leeds.

The British Triathlon squad for Glasgow 2018 has yet to be confirmed, but Jess has already stated her ambitions to defend her European crown at Strathclyde Park this August!

The 30-year-old from Leeds trains alongside the Brownlee brothers. She showed promise in several sports as a youngster - she was a national level swimmer, a talented golfer at Wetherby Golf Club and played football for Leeds United Ladies Academy. Jess found Triathlon at the age of 23 and has never looked back.

Jess says: “The fact that my first major international title was winning the 2017 eEuropean Championships, makes being an Ambassador for the Glasgow 2018 European Championships even more special and I will be going all out to try and retain my title.”

The 2018 ETU European Triathlon Championships will see about 160 of the top Triathletes compete for European glory.

With individual male and female events and a thrilling mixed relay event, there will be plenty of magical moments. Whether in the water, on the bike or on the final sprint to the finish line, Triathlon is guaranteed to set pulses racing.

Make sure you are there to see the action unfold! If you want to see Jess compete at Strathclyde Country Park in North Lanarkshire, buy Triathlon tickets here.

Meanwhile, watch out for a big announcement tomorrow as we mark 50 days until the start of Scotland’s next big multi-sport event!
